Hawaii's coral reefs are among the most biologically diverse ecosystems on Earth, yet face existential threats from climate change, ocean acidification, invasive species, and tourism impacts. Over 25% of Hawaiian reef species are found nowhere else on the planet. Traditional conservation funding is insufficient to protect these unique ecosystems at scale. KauaiDAO combines marine science with community engagement and sustainable tourism to create resilient funding for reef protection. The Hawaii ecotourism market generates $2.4 billion annually, with growing demand for authentic conservation experiences. Led by conservation expert Gregg Winston and supported by local Hawaiian communities, KauaiDAO demonstrates how island conservation can be both culturally respectful and economically sustainable. With coral bleaching events increasing in frequency and severity, the time to act is now.
